Parisians near the iconic Arc de Triomphe witnessed an extraordinary emergency operation on the morning of Friday, February 6, 2026. The area was cordoned off as a Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) helicopter executed a dramatic airlift to save a man’s life.
An “Absolute Emergency” in a 7th-Floor Apartment
The rescue was triggered by a report of a person in cardiac arrest inside a seventh-floor apartment. According to the BSPP, the building’s staircase was unsuitable for a standard evacuation, forcing firefighters to devise an alternative plan.
Facing what was described as an “absolute emergency,” the rescue team extracted the victim through a window of the residence. They then performed a delicate helicopter hoist operation, lowering the individual to the Place de l’Étoile below.
Traffic Halted for Critical Lifesaving Mission
To facilitate the airborne rescue, authorities blocked traffic around the famous roundabout from approximately 9:45 a.m. A waiting ambulance on the ground immediately transported the patient to a hospital for urgent care.
The operation showcased the specialized capabilities of the Paris Fire Brigade, mobilizing exceptional resources in one of the city’s most congested and recognizable locations to attempt a lifesaving intervention.
