ISLAMABAD — The federal government has announced another increase in petroleum product prices, according to an official notification issued on Monday. The adjustment pushes petrol up by Re0.39 per litre and high-speed diesel by Rs2.40 per litre.
Following the latest revision, petrol will now retail at Rs341.98 per litre, while high-speed diesel will be sold at Rs370.69 per litre. The new rates take effect from midnight and will remain applicable for one day, the notification stated.
Dealers’ Margin Also Adjusted
This price adjustment comes shortly after the government increased the dealers’ margin on both petrol and diesel by 14 percent. An additional Rs1.34 per litre was approved for dealers of both products with immediate effect.
As a result, the dealers’ margin has risen from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre, further contributing to the cost pressures faced by consumers at fuel stations across the country.
Context of Recent Fuel Price Changes
The latest increase follows a previous adjustment in which petrol was raised by Rs3.81 per litre and diesel by Rs3.59 per litre. Successive revisions have kept fuel prices on an upward trajectory, driven by fluctuations in global oil markets and domestic fiscal measures.
Consumers and transport operators are likely to feel the impact of higher diesel prices, particularly in the freight and agricultural sectors, where fuel constitutes a significant operating cost.
