PIMS Incident Inquiry Report Submitted to PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD – An initial inquiry report into the recent incident at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) has been formally submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The investigation committee has identified the causes of the incident, pinpointed those held responsible, and recommended disciplinary action against them.

Sources confirmed that the report was prepared by an inquiry committee headed by former interior secretary Shahid Khan. It was submitted late Friday at the office of the Prime Minister’s Adviser Tauqeer Shah. The committee also briefed senior officials about the report’s key findings and recommendations.

The report has been signed by all members of the inquiry committee. The authority to make its contents public has been left exclusively with the prime minister.

Key Findings of the Inquiry Committee

According to sources, the inquiry examined the circumstances that led to the incident and highlighted significant difficulties faced by rescue teams during relief operations. The committee has recommended disciplinary action against relevant PIMS staff members who were absent at the time of the incident.

The report also contains recommendations aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future. Interviews with PIMS administration officials and doctors have been included, along with statements from fire brigade and rescue personnel involved in the emergency response.

Concerns Over Treatment Arrangements and Facilities

The inquiry committee raised serious concerns about treatment arrangements and inadequate facilities at PIMS. It observed that the available arrangements did not meet international standards. The committee has urged the prime minister to take immediate action against those found responsible.

The prime minister has reportedly decided to initiate action in light of the inquiry findings. Proceedings against the relevant officials are expected to begin soon. Sources within the inquiry committee confirmed that the report had been formally forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office.
