Off-Duty Officer Accused of Shoving Woman to the Ground
A deputy police commissioner from Saint-Brieuc will face trial in June for an alleged drunken assault on a woman in a Paris bar. The incident occurred while the officer was off-duty in the early hours of last Saturday morning.
Marc A., a deputy commissioner with the departmental police in Côtes-d’Armor, has been formally summoned to appear before the criminal court on June 8. He is charged with “violence while in a state of drunkenness resulting in a work incapacity not exceeding eight days.”
Altercation at Le Néo Café
The Paris prosecutor’s office stated the commissioner is accused of pushing an acquaintance, causing her to fall to the ground around 3:30 a.m. at Le Néo Café on Boulevard Saint-Germain. According to a witness who spoke to Le Parisien, after an argument with a female patron, the man grabbed and violently shoved her. The victim’s head struck the floor.
Several police sources indicated that after the altercation, the man identified himself as a police officer and repeatedly lifted his shirt to display his service weapon holstered at his belt. The prosecutor’s office noted that while the suspect appeared intoxicated, the current investigation has not confirmed any act of brandishing the weapon.
Investigation and Aftermath
The officer later presented himself at the police station for the 5th and 6th arrondissements. The victim was assessed with two days of total work incapacity (ITT).
The prosecutor’s office had previously confirmed on Saturday the opening of an investigation into “violence committed in a state of manifest drunkenness,” assigned to the 3rd district of the judicial police.
