A police constable was fatally shot in the Manghopir area of Karachi by unidentified assailants, according to an official statement released by the police department. The constable, identified as Imran, badge number 28977, was stationed at the Manghopir police station. The incident occurred near Khairabad, where unknown attackers opened fire, leading to his death. Imran was promptly transported to a hospital, where investigations are currently underway.
The shooting took place near Khairabad Aman Chowrangi, located in the western Manghopir area of Orangi Town. Authorities recovered seven empty bullet shells from the crime scene. In a separate statement, the West District police confirmed that the slain officer was in uniform and on duty when three unidentified gunmen pursued and fired upon him, resulting in his death.
The Superintendent of Police for the Manghopir Division and the Station House Officer have arrived at the scene as further investigations continue. This incident follows a series of attacks on law enforcement officers in the region. Earlier, on February 1, a police inspector was wounded in a shooting in the SITE area. On February 9, a police officer was killed in Steel Town due to personal enmity, with his wife also sustaining injuries.
In a related incident last June, a police officer was killed, and three others were injured near Patel Para in what investigators described as a planned attack. Head Constable Qamar Zaman and three others were at a tea shop when motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire before escaping.
The recent spate of attacks on law enforcement highlights ongoing security challenges in Karachi, prompting increased vigilance and investigation efforts by the police force.
