A police officer was tragically killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen in the Khar region of Bajaur on Sunday. The officer, Ismail Khan, was ambushed while returning home from a local market in the Badisamoor area, according to rescue officials citing local witnesses.
Ismail Khan, aged 38, sustained critical injuries and succumbed to his wounds while receiving first aid at the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar. He served as the head of the Quick Response Force in the district police, said District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafiq.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, DPO Rafiq stated that a police team was dispatched immediately after the incident to apprehend the assailants, who managed to escape. He assured that all resources would be deployed to track down the perpetrators, and an investigation into the attack has been launched. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident, which marks the second attack on police in Bajaur this month.
In a separate development, the body of a civilian employee of a state institution was discovered in fields near Gul Kallay Daud Shah in Bannu district. The deceased, identified as a clerk, was found within the jurisdiction of the Cantonment police station.
According to the victim’s brother, the clerk had recently joined the army and was home on leave. He left his residence following evening prayers on Saturday and did not return. The family commenced a search and discovered his body in the fields. Police reports indicate that the victim was shot, and there was no known enmity.
The authorities have handed over the body to the family following medico-legal procedures and have registered a case for intentional murder under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Investigations are ongoing.
