In a dire situation unfolding in Punjab, the Ravi River at Balloki and the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala continue to experience ‘exceptionally high’ flooding levels, prompting urgent responses from local authorities. The intense flooding has led to the evacuation of approximately 600,000 residents and 450,000 animals to safer grounds, according to Chief Minister Maryam.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Punjab has reported the tragic loss of 30 lives so far due to the relentless floodwaters that have swept across the region. To prevent further devastation, the Punjab government has initiated controlled breaches in key flood bunds, a tactical move to divert water away from populated areas and safeguard vital cities.

Looking ahead, Sindh is preparing for the incoming surge of floodwaters from Punjab, expected to arrive between September 2nd and 3rd, according to Sharjeel Inam. This forecast has heightened alert levels in Sindh, where efforts are underway to mitigate potential impacts.

In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Shehbaz, along with federal ministers and the army chief, have visited the flood-stricken areas to oversee relief operations and offer aid to affected communities. The ongoing efforts aim to provide immediate relief and chart a pathway towards recovery as the region grapples with severe flooding conditions.
