In Sialkot’s Muzaffarpur tehsil, an alarming incident has been reported involving a school principal allegedly assaulting a 10th-grade student for participating in a customary practice of signing uniform shirts during a school event. The student’s father, Adeel Anwar, has appealed for justice from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and local police authorities.
According to Adeel Anwar, his 16-year-old daughter, Wardah Adeel, who suffers from a heart condition, was subjected to physical violence by the principal, Tasneem Afzal. The incident occurred on the last day of school when students traditionally sign each other’s shirts as a farewell gesture. Anwar stated that the principal entered the classroom, verbally abused the students, and forcefully dragged Wardah by her hair.
“Wardah was slapped, punched, and kicked, and then locked in a room,” Anwar recounted, adding that other students were also reportedly subjected to similar treatment. Following the incident, Wardah, who was left traumatized, was taken to a private hospital for treatment. Anwar also mentioned that his younger daughter, 12-year-old Maha, had left the school due to fears of similar abuse and is now attending a different institution.
In response to the incident, Anwar has filed a request with the Sialkot District Police Officer to register a First Information Report (FIR). A formal complaint has also been sent to the Chief Minister of Punjab, urging immediate action. Attempts to contact the principal for her comments have not elicited any response.
District police spokesperson Malik Waqas Ahmed confirmed the receipt of the complaint from the victim’s father. “A report has been requested from City Circle DSP Tariq Mehmood,” he stated, indicating ongoing investigations into the matter.
