In an unexpected turn of events, Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh has attributed the newfound success of her film “Sanam Teri Kasam” to her recent marriage to Amir Gilani. The romantic drama, which originally faced a lukewarm reception at the box office in 2016, is currently breaking records following its re-release in India.
Expressing her gratitude for the overwhelming love from Indian audiences, Sheikh noted that while she has always cherished their affection, this surge in popularity feels unparalleled. In an exclusive conversation, she credited her husband for the film’s delayed yet remarkable success. “Honestly, if the film waited nine years for this moment, it’s my husband’s good fortune. That’s the only change. The film was always there, all the work was done. But I truly feel this is marital bliss,” she remarked.
Her co-star, Harshvardhan Rane, also commented on the film’s resurgence, extending special congratulations to Sheikh on her marriage. Reflecting on their past, Rane apologized for distancing himself following the film’s initial failure, to which Sheikh responded that apologies were unnecessary as everyone had dedicated their heart and soul to the project.
Sheikh credited the powerful performance in “Sanam Teri Kasam” to teamwork, emphasizing her commitment to punctuality, focus, and learning as much as possible on set. “Many people were investing in me, trusting me to get it right, so I had to do it. Everything else that happened wasn’t my doing. It was the universe. It was magic,” she shared.
With the announcement of a sequel, “Sanam Teri Kasam 2,” fans are eagerly anticipating Sheikh’s potential return to the screen. Despite her character’s tragic end in the original film, she expressed hope for continued success for producer Deepak Mukut.
The re-release has overshadowed the original earnings, with the film garnering 185 million rupees, doubling its initial theatrical run.
