A sudden, “unexpected social movement” announced by the SNCF this Friday, July 31st, is set to severely disrupt train travel throughout the weekend of August 1st and 2nd, precisely when stations are bracing for the massive crossover between returning July holidaymakers and departing August vacationers.
Paris-Normandy Routes Heavily Impacted
The strike action is specifically targeting the popular rail corridor between Paris and Normandy, a region famed for its seaside resorts and summer getaways. Travelers with plans to reach destinations like Caen, Cherbourg, Rouen, Le Havre, or the chic Trouville-Deauville will need considerable patience.
However, the disruption is not a blanket shutdown of the Norman network. The SNCF confirmed that traffic will remain “normal” on the Paris-Granville line and on all other lines of the “Nomad” regional network, with two critical exceptions: the “Rouen – Vernon – Paris” and “Caen – Bernay – Évreux – Paris” routes will be severely affected.

Passengers on affected services are entitled to a free exchange or a full refund for their tickets, a process that can be handled online or at a ticket counter. For those who cannot delay their departure, significant delays are inevitable. The SNCF has published detailed “schedule sheets” on its website for each impacted line, allowing travelers to check which trains are actually running.
