A 40-year-old Syrian business executive was charged with rape in Paris on Wednesday, September 16, and subsequently jailed, according to judicial sources. He stands accused of assaulting a woman in the restroom of a restaurant in the capital’s 16th arrondissement during the night of September 13 to 14.
Alert Raised Inside the Restaurant
At approximately 10:45 p.m. on the night in question, a 30-year-old woman raised the alarm inside the restaurant Mokus l’Écureuil on Avenue Kléber, telling staff and patrons that she had been raped in the establishment’s toilets.
The suspect fled the scene in his vehicle in the direction of the Arc de Triomphe. Police officers located him a short distance away, took him into custody, and placed him under arrest. He was initially held for questioning at the Bessières barracks in the 17th arrondissement before being formally charged and remanded.
