Pakistan Warns PTI Ahead of September 27 Islamabad March

Pakistan Warns PTI Ahead of September 27 Islamabad March

ISLAMABAD — Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry has declared that September 27 will demonstrate how the state establishes its authority, as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for its proposed march towards the federal capital.

Speaking during a television programme, Chaudhry said the government and state authorities possess the full authority to take all necessary measures to maintain the state’s writ during the PTI’s planned Islamabad march. His remarks came amid preparations for the September 27 protest and recent court directions concerning the proposed march.

Government Signals Restraint, but Warns of Firm Action

The minister said the government did not wish to be forced into taking strict measures against the PTI over its return to Islamabad, adding that the situation on September 27 would make clear how the state enforces its writ.

“September 27 will show how the state establishes its writ,” Chaudhry stated, signalling that authorities are prepared to act decisively should the situation require it.

Criticism of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government

Chaudhry also criticised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, accusing the provincial chief minister of avoiding attendance at the prime minister’s quarterly meetings on counterterrorism while simultaneously seeking an increased share under the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award and additional funds from the federal government.

He further said the PTI-led provincial government had so far received Rs700 billion under the NFC Award, adding that it was responsible for providing a complete account of those funds.

Calls for Focus on Governance Over Protest Politics

The minister urged the provincial government to concentrate on the proper utilisation of these resources and on improving its performance, rather than engaging in political sit-ins and marches.

The remarks underscore the mounting tension between the federal government and the PTI-led provincial administration as the planned protest approaches, with all eyes on how authorities will respond on September 27.
