Tanzid Hasan Hits Historic Test Century in Australia

DARWIN –ener Tanzid Hasan etched his name into the record books on Friday, becoming the first Bangladesh cricketer to score a Test century in Australia. stylish 101 off 197 balls drove the visitors to a commanding 153-run first-innings lead over a shell-shocked Australian side atrara Oval.

The 25-year-old lefthander, playing in only his second Test, anchored Bangladesh’s innings a composed knock that featured eight fours and a towering six off seam-bowling all-rounder Beau Webster. By stumps on day two Bangladesh had reached 351 for six, leaving Australia facing a significant deficit after being bowled out for 198 on the opening day.A Nervous Wait and a Celebratory Leap

Tanzid’s path to the milestone was not without tension.uck on 99, he endured a nervous phase before seizing his moment against veteran spinner Nathan Lyon. With the last ball before drinks in middle session, he nudged a single and erupted in celebration, bounding down the wicket with a fist-pump and a leap of pure joyp>

“This is very special for me because this is the first time I am here,” Tanzid said during the tea break. ” was trying to play normal and keep calm.”

His innings was built on two crucial partnerships. A 102-run with number three Mominul Haque (49) laid the foundation, while a 93-run alliance with captain Najmul Hossainanto (84) consolidated Bangladesh’s dominance. Tanzid was eventually dismissed when he attacked Lyon and miscued a slog to a running Mitchell Starc long-off.

Australia Rally Late but Face Uphill Battle

Beaten in five consecutive under stifling Darwin heat, Australia finally found some fight after tea. With the second new ball, they snatched three quick wickets to stem the of runs and inject a flicker of hope into their campaign.

Josh Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers claiming the wickets of Haque, Shanto, and Mushfiqur Rahim (36). Shanto edged to Steve Smith in the slips a patient 66-run stand with Mushfiqur, triggering a mini-collapse. Wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das thenicked Starc behind for a duck before Mushfiqur fell to Cummins, handing Smith his third catch of the innings.

>Smith’s hat-trick of slips catches drew him level with England’s Joe Root on a record 218 Test catches for non-wicketkeeping fielders.

Bangladesh’s Bowlers Set the Tone

Bangladesh’s commanding position built on a disciplined bowling effort on day one. After Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to bat, the visitors skitt the hosts for just 198. The decision to bat first now looks questionable, with the pitch appearing to have flattened out considerably.

>”They batted really well, obviously. We obviously missed a few chances, too. But credit to them,” said Australian opener Jake Weather. “The wicket’s changed a lot from our first innings compared to today. So we’re excited to get out there. We think it looks a really good track to bat on now.”

Redemption for Tanzid

>Tanzid journey to this historic moment has been one of resilience. Dropped after managing just 30 runs in his debut Test, he has seized his opportunity in Australia’s tropical north with both hands. His innings was a masterclass in patience and timing, blending solid defence with elegant strokeplayp>

As Bangladesh look to press home their advantage on day three, all eyes will be on whether their bowlers can replicate their firstinnings heroics. For now, though, the day belongs to Tanzid Hasan – a young opener who has written his name into cricket folklorep>
