MUMBAI — Indian actor Tiger Shroff escaped unharmed after a shooting incident in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday evening, though his driver and a bystander were injured, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred at around 7pm as Shroff was leaving his workplace, The Hindu reported, citing an official. Mumbai Zone-II Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg said the actor’s driver, identified as Firdaus, sustained an injury to his left hand, while a bystander named Chauhan was also wounded. Both were taken for medical treatment.
Government Orders Probe as Ministers Vow Tough Response
Maharashtra Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti to investigate the incident and take action against those responsible, according to the report.
Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde told The Hindu that ensuring public safety remained the government’s top priority and warned that authorities would not tolerate attempts to threaten the film industry.
“Our priority is to keep Mumbai’s citizens safe. We will not spare anyone trying to threaten our film industry,” Shinde said.
He added that Mumbai had previously overcome an era of gang warfare in the 1990s with the help of the police and said the authorities would not allow such criminal networks to re-emerge. “This incident is unfortunate,” he said.
Film Industry Warns of a Pattern of Attacks
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which represents members of the film industry, expressed shock over the shooting involving Shroff and warned that a series of attacks had created an atmosphere of fear among Bollywood personalities.
In a statement, the association cited previous incidents, including:
- Gunfire outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra
- The stabbing of actor Saif Ali Khan at his home in the same area
- Shooting outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s Juhu residence
- Repeated attacks on comedian Kapil Sharma’s café
The association said the incidents appeared to indicate a pattern of targeting film industry figures, allegedly to intimidate them and extort money. It criticised the government and police for failing to prevent repeated attacks, adding that statements alone were insufficient to ensure the industry’s safety.
“Bollywood needs real protection,” the association stressed, calling on Chief Minister Fadnavis to take strict action against those behind the attacks.
The body demanded the immediate arrest of the alleged shooters and those who ordered the firing, along with measures to dismantle extortion networks targeting film personalities. It also called for adequate security for actors, other film industry professionals and their families, as well as accountability for repeated security failures.
Unverified Social Media Post Claims Responsibility
Local media reports said an unverified social media post had claimed responsibility for the attack. The post allegedly warned that people in Mumbai’s film industry who worked with Salman Khan and refused to comply with the group’s demands would face similar consequences.
“Those in the Mumbai industry who work with Salman Khan and don’t listen to us will meet the same fate,” the post reportedly stated.
Authorities have not publicly addressed the social media claim, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
