NEW YORK – US President Donald Trump delivered a contentious address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, sharply criticising recent decisions on Palestinian state recognition, the handling of the war in Ukraine, and climate change initiatives. His remarks, detailed by French public broadcaster France Télévisions, offered an unvarnished view on a range of global issues.
Regarding the recognition of a Palestinian state, a move announced by several nations including France the day prior, President Trump asserted that these countries were “rewarding Hamas terrorists” who, he claimed, consistently reject all peace processes. Speaking before world leaders, the American president urged all present to “end the war in Gaza” and insisted that “Hamas must free all hostages.”
The White House occupant also took aim at the United Nations itself, expressing frustration over what he perceived as a lack of assistance in his own peace efforts. “I have ended seven wars. I have not received a single phone call from the UN offering to help me resolve these conflicts,” he stated. Addressing the conflict in Ukraine, Trump suggested he believed it was “simple to resolve” due to his “very good relations with Vladimir Putin.” He further admonished Europe, declaring, “Europe must stop buying oil from Russia, it’s shameful.”
Concluding his remarks on global conflicts, President Trump reiterated his climate-sceptic views, dismissing climate change as the “biggest hoax in history.” He encouraged attendees “not to be fooled” and went on to characterise scientists and others raising alarms about greenhouse gas emissions as “stupid.”
