US President Donald Trump has claimed that America will “manage” Gaza and not rule out sending American troops to the region. In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed support for Trump’s suggestion, believing that Trump will help achieve Israel’s military objectives. Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its “strong” support for a Palestinian state, stating that it will not accept any agreement that does not guarantee the rights of Palestinians. Arab leaders have expressed astonishment and concern about how these proposals will be implemented.
Under Trump’s plan, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has offered all its employees a “buyout” deal, allowing them to leave their jobs in exchange for approximately eight months’ salary and benefits. Conversely, global employees of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) have been placed on administrative leave on Friday and instructed to return to the US. Questions are being raised about Trump’s project in Gaza in light of international humanitarian laws. Analysts suggest that the project could promote forced displacement of Palestinians, which would violate international laws.
During a press conference, Trump stated, “America will take control of Gaza and transform it into a new ‘Riviera’.” He further mentioned plans to eliminate non-explosive bombs in the area and clear the target, while also stating that Palestinians will be relocated to a “beautiful” land. A Hamas official has labeled this proposal as a “recipe for escalation and chaos” in the region, stating that the people of Gaza will not allow these projects to succeed. Furthermore, Arab countries have strongly objected to the proposal for the forced displacement of Palestinians, which opponents equate to ethnic cleansing.
On the other hand, leaders of both political parties have raised doubts and concerns about Trump’s proposal, with some Democratic senators calling it “insane” and “dangerous.” The international community is voicing strong criticism and concern over Trump’s controversial proposal, while it remains to be seen how these suggestions will be implemented practically.
