Violence broke out in the French city of Mâcon (Saône-et-Loire) on Saturday night, continuing into Sunday, with three public buildings and three police vehicles targeted. Additionally, trash bins were set ablaze. According to the local prefecture, the incidents occurred in the sensitive neighborhood of Saugeraies, where one individual was taken into custody.
Preliminary reports from the prefecture revealed that three public buildings were damaged, and three police vehicles were destroyed. Seven private cars were also set on fire, along with an excavator and several trash bins. In response to the unrest, Interior Minister Bruno Le Roux announced on BFMTV that additional security forces would be deployed to Mâcon. The Ministry of the Interior later confirmed that a semi-company of the CRS (Republican Security Companies) would be stationed in the area.
By 5 a.m. on Sunday, authorities had regained control of the situation. Prefect Yves Séguy closed the operational center, which had been opened at 2 a.m. in the presence of Mâcon’s mayor and representatives from relevant departments. The prefect also imposed a ban on the use, possession, and transport of weapons, ammunition, and any weapon-like objects in the municipalities of Mâcon, Sancé, and Charnay-lès-Mâcon, effective from 8 a.m. Sunday until 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Following the incidents, the prefect requested mobile security forces for the upcoming night. Local authorities have taken all necessary measures to monitor the situation, and no major casualties have been reported so far.
The unrest erupted in a sensitive area of the city, prompting swift action from security forces to bring the situation under control. Local administration officials have appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid further violence.
