PESHAWAR — A wide-ranging action plan comprising 206 measures across 27 departments has been drawn up to promote political and economic stability in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with law and order, administrative reform, public services and economic development at its core.
According to sources, the 100-to-180-day blueprint spans the province including the merged districts, and is designed to improve governance, public facilities and government performance.
Roads, Sanitation and City Upgrades
The infrastructure component is among the plan’s most ambitious, proposing the repair of roughly 1,150 key roads alongside a series of urban improvements.
- Covers installed on 8,000 open manholes
- Sanitation improved at 4,000 locations
- Nearly 150 blocked drainage channels cleared
- 80 parks restored
- Markets and public buildings beautified across districts
- Solar-powered streetlights along major roads
- Traffic management upgraded at 20 of Peshawar’s busiest intersections
- Unfinished sections of the Ring Road completed
- Renovation and maintenance work on the Grand Trunk Road
- A bypass constructed and improved in Bannu
Health: Medicines, Staffing and Digital Oversight
In the health sector, the plan proposes vaccination services at basic health units and round-the-clock operations at 250 facilities, with at least 80 per cent of essential medicines to be kept available. Digital monitoring of attendance for doctors, nurses, support staff and other healthcare workers is also envisaged, alongside improved facilities at healthcare centres and action to address medicine shortages in hospitals.
Education and Youth Employment
For education, the blueprint calls for improvements at 1,500 schools and the provision of furniture to address shortages affecting around 700,000 students. It also proposes transferring underperforming schools to the private sector, reopening damaged or non-functional schools in the merged districts and expanding Rescue 1122 services in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Youth-focused initiatives include interest-free loans, vocational training, employment-oriented skills development, youth centres in government buildings, sports competitions and support for entrepreneurial and research projects at universities. Improvements to sports grounds are also part of the proposed measures.
Energy, Water and Mining
Under the energy proposals, concessional financial assistance would be provided to 65,000 households — particularly widows and disadvantaged groups — to help them install domestic solar systems. The plan also includes the restoration of non-functional water supply schemes.
For mining, proposals include medical examinations and technical training for miners, digitisation of mining records and the establishment of centres to respond to mining accidents in Kohat, Abbottabad and Buner.
Naming Still Under Consideration
According to sources, several names have been proposed for the initiative, including Mustahkam Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 180-Day Strategic Action Plan.
