PESHAWAR – Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has sharply criticized the country’s leadership, declaring that any failure to adhere to the Constitution amounts to negligence on the part of the rulers.
Addressing a workers’ convention in Peshawar on Sunday, the JUI-F emir underscored the supremacy of Islamic principles within the legal framework. He stated that the Constitution explicitly mandates that no legislation shall be enacted contrary to the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
Commitment to Political Struggle and National Defence
Rehman reflected on the historical legacy of his party, emphasizing the importance of political perseverance. He noted that the leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam have consistently imparted lessons on political struggle, and that these teachings remain critically relevant today.
The veteran politician also reiterated his party’s unwavering stance on national security, affirming that JUI-F firmly believes in maintaining a robust and strong defence force for Pakistan.
Allegations of Political Suppression
During the same convention, senior JUI-F leader Abdul Ghafoor Haideri drew parallels between the current political climate and the historical challenges faced during the subcontinent era. He alleged that systematic tactics are being employed to silence the voice of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
Haideri further claimed that weak candidates, who are incapable of winning even a councillor seat, are being strategically fielded against JUI-F representatives in an attempt to undermine the party’s influence.
The statements come amid ongoing political tensions, with the JUI-F leadership positioning itself as a staunch defender of constitutional governance and Islamic values.
