Five young individuals have been arrested near Lyon in connection with the violent kidnapping of a 35-year-old magistrate from Grenoble and her mother. The suspects, four men and one woman aged 18 to 20, were taken into custody in a police operation spanning from Saturday night into Sunday morning, February 8, 2026.
Details of the Kidnapping and Escape
The two victims were abducted from Bourg-lès-Valence in the Drôme region on Wednesday night and held captive in a garage. They managed to escape on Friday morning after their captors left the premises. The kidnapping sent shockwaves through the French judicial community.
According to the Lyon prosecutor’s office, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of €1.6 million in cryptocurrency from the magistrate’s husband, who is a partner in a startup specializing in the sector. Authorities confirmed that no ransom was paid.
