Karachi traffic authorities have issued a comprehensive traffic management plan for the city’s main Youm-e-Ali mourning procession, scheduled for Wednesday, March 11, which corresponds to the 21st of Ramadan.
Procession Route and Timing
According to officials, the central procession will commence at 1:00 PM from Nishtar Park. It will follow its traditional route through the city before concluding at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
Major Road Closures and Diversions
A traffic police spokesperson confirmed that several key arteries will be closed to general traffic for the event.
- MA Jinnah Road will be shut from Guru Mandir to Tower.
- Corridor Three, from Saddar Dawakhana to Regal, will also be closed.
Significant traffic diversions have been planned:
- Traffic from District Central will be diverted from Lasbela towards Nishtar Road and Garden.
- Vehicles arriving from Liaquatabad will be redirected from Guru Mandir towards Lasbela and Garden.
- Traffic on Shahrah-e-Quaideen will not be allowed to proceed beyond the Society Light Signal.
Alternative Routes and Special Access
Commuters traveling from Hasan Square to Peoples Chowrangi are advised to use New MA Jinnah Road, Jail Flyover, Teen Hatti, and Nishtar Road as alternative routes.
Vehicles with special passes for the procession will be allowed entry from the Society Light Signal. Furthermore, vehicles carrying Niaz (food offerings) and Sabeel (water stations) will be permitted to enter from MA Jinnah Road at Tower.
Police Deployment
Traffic police personnel will be deployed at all major diversion points and along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure a smooth flow of traffic around the procession area.
Background of Youm-e-Ali
Youm-e-Ali is observed on the 21st day of Ramadan each year to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA). The day is marked by large mourning processions across Pakistan.
