PESHAWAR — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi announced that the federal government has assured the province of Rs160 billion in funding, adding that further financial support would be extended should the provincial government request it.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Samar Haroon Bilour, the governor described the day as a significant moment in the province’s history, pointing to a national Apex Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Special Package for Martyrs’ Families Approved
Kundi said a special compensation package had been approved for the families of martyrs, and thanked the prime minister and the field marshal for their support. He said the government’s objective was to build a stronger and more developed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the governor, the Apex Committee meeting was attended by the prime minister, the field marshal and federal ministers, while the provincial chief secretary briefed participants on the overall situation in the province. Discussions covered the province’s challenges, wheat-related issues and other key matters.
Zero Tolerance for Corruption, Accountability for Salaries
Kundi said transparency would be ensured in government postings and transfers, with a zero-tolerance policy adopted against corruption. Turning to the performance of public servants, he said officials drawing salaries without performing their duties would be required to fulfil their responsibilities, stressing that the government must ensure civil servants deliver work in return for their pay.
Peshawar Rickshaw Registration and Encroachment Crackdown
The governor also highlighted traffic and vehicle registration problems in Peshawar, noting that the city has approximately 100,000 rickshaws, of which only 30,000 are registered. He further warned that no concessions would be granted in cases involving encroachments.
