The Lahore High Court has called for official reports from the deputy commissioners of Lahore and Sheikhupura as it examines petitions challenging the continued detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers, Dunya News reported.
Justice Abhar Gul Khan presided over the proceedings on petitions filed by Rao Shahzad and others.
Lawyer Argues Detention Orders Unconstitutional
During the hearing, counsel Irfan Kalar told the court that PTI workers, including Rashid and Javed Iqbal, had been taken into custody and remained held even after their initial detention periods had lapsed. He said the deputy commissioners of Lahore and Sheikhupura subsequently issued fresh detention orders against the workers.
The lawyer contended that keeping the workers in detention without stating a reason was unconstitutional. He urged the court to declare the detention orders unlawful and to direct the authorities to release the detained workers.
Court Orders Reports From Deputy Commissioners
After hearing the arguments, the court sought reports from the deputy commissioners of both districts on the petitions. The matter will proceed once the official responses are submitted.
