A man has been taken into police custody in Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine, following the discovery of his partner’s body in her apartment on Saturday, according to police sources.
Discovery of the Victim
Police, alerted by a third party, discovered the woman’s body in an advanced state of decomposition during the afternoon. Initial investigation details indicate the victim was found on the floor of the residence.
Suspect’s Contradictory Statements
The victim’s partner, described by police as a squatter with a history of domestic violence, was arrested at the scene. He reportedly claimed the woman had suffered a medical crisis several weeks prior and had remained on the floor since. Authorities have been unable to verify the timeline or cause of death, as the suspect gave conflicting accounts, first stating she died three days earlier and then claiming it was several weeks ago.
Ongoing Investigation and Broader Context
The judicial police have taken over the investigation under the authority of the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office. The suspect is known to authorities for previous domestic violence incidents.
This case emerges amid rising concerns about gender-based violence in France. According to the latest Interior Ministry data, 107 women were killed by their partner or ex-partner in 2024, an 11% increase from the previous year.
