KARACHI – The judicial commission constituted by the Sindh government to carry out an impartial and transparent investigation into the murder of Mir Raza Ali has seen its term expire, with the provincial authorities yet to decide on an extension.
Government Yet to Rule on Extension Request
According to sources, the Sindh Home Department has not yet reached a decision on extending the commission’s mandate. The commission had requested an extension until October 15 to complete the recording of witness statements and finalise its report.
The notification establishing the judicial commission was issued on August 24, and the body commenced proceedings on August 27. The Sindh Home Department had directed the commission to conclude its work within one month.
Witness Testimony at Risk
Sources said the commission summoned two witnesses today to continue its proceedings. However, the recording of their statements could be jeopardised if the notification extending the commission’s term is not issued in time.
The development raises questions about the pace of the investigation, as the commission’s ability to gather testimony now hinges on a pending administrative decision.
Family Presses Police for Answers
The family of Mir Raza has also sought answers from senior police officers regarding a range of questions related to the case, underscoring the growing pressure for clarity and accountability in the high-profile matter.
With the commission’s term now lapsed, all eyes are on the Sindh Home Department to determine whether the investigation will be allowed to continue or face further delay.
