Clinical Chase Downs Gladiators
Multan Sultans secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Quetta Gladiators in the 13th match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11 at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Chasing a target of 167, the 2021 champions reached 168/4 with 15 balls to spare, largely thanks to a dominant batting performance.
Smith and Farhan Provide Explosive Start
The Sultans’ chase was ignited by a blistering opening partnership. Steven Smith and Sahibzada Farhan put on 71 runs in just five overs, setting a formidable platform. Farhan departed after a quickfire 32 off 14 balls, but Smith continued the assault.
The Australian star top-scored with a fluent 53 from 35 deliveries, hitting seven fours and a six. He shared a crucial 40-run stand with Shan Masood, who remained unbeaten on 46 off 30 balls to guide the team home.
Gladiators’ Innings Anchored by Skipper
Earlier, after being put in to bat, Quetta Gladiators posted 166/7 in their 20 overs. Captain Saud Shakeel anchored the innings with a valiant 56 off 41 balls. He built partnerships with Hasan Nawaz (20) and Donovan Jacobs to rescue his side from a precarious 15/2.
Jacobs provided a late flourish, finishing unbeaten on 49 from 31 deliveries. However, the Gladiators’ total proved insufficient against a disciplined Sultans bowling attack led by Usama Nawaz, who took 3/30.
Bowling Highlights and Standout Performers
For the Sultans, Usama Nawaz was the standout bowler, while Arafat Minhas contributed with two wickets. Quetta’s Hasan Nawaz was the most effective bowler in the chase, taking 2/17 in his two overs, but lacked support from the other end.
The win strengthens Multan Sultans’ position in the PSL 11 points table, while Quetta Gladiators will look to regroup after this defeat.
