KARACHI — A Karachi anti-terrorism court has acquitted seven accused in the high-profile Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case, citing insufficient evidence, bringing the total number of cleared suspects to all 25 individuals named in the case.
Court Cites Lack of Evidence
The Anti-Terrorism Court in Karachi acquitted the seven accused, including the alleged shooter Shoaib and Amanullah Marwat, after finding the evidence presented against them inadequate. The other acquitted accused were identified as Gada Hussain, Sadaqat Hussain, Riaz Ahmed, Raja Shamim and Mohsin Abbas.
The defence counsel argued that not a single witness had testified against the arrested police personnel to establish that the alleged police encounter was staged.
Prosecution Details Prior Acquittals
The prosecution informed the court that 18 police officers and personnel, including former Malir SSP Rao Anwar, had already been acquitted in the case. Seven other police officers and personnel, including former SHO Amanullah Marwat, had remained absconders.
According to the prosecution, all seven absconding accused surrendered after the Anti-Terrorism Court’s earlier verdict.
