The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has launched a digital document attestation system, allowing citizens to submit applications online and receive verified attestation certificates by email, the Foreign Office said.
According to the Foreign Office, the new system became operational on October 12, 2026, and is available through the ministry’s main office in Islamabad as well as its liaison offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat.
How the New Process Works
Under the revised procedure, applicants upload their documents through the ministry’s online portal. Once the documents have been reviewed and verified, applicants pay the prescribed fee online and then receive their attestation certificates by email.
Applications can be submitted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ official portal at portal-attestation.mofa.gov.pk.
Relief From Long Queues
The initiative is intended to spare citizens repeated visits to government offices, long queues and the difficulties associated with the traditional attestation process, which has long required applicants to appear in person at multiple stages.
Services Covered
The system covers general document attestation and apostille services. However, officials noted that some cases may still require applicants to appear in person for physical verification.
- Online submission of documents through the ministry’s portal
- Digital review and verification before payment
- Online fee payment
- Attestation certificates delivered by email
- Services available in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Gujrat
The rollout marks a significant shift in how Pakistan handles one of its most frequently used consular services, with the government betting that digital verification will reduce paperwork, curb touts and speed up processing for citizens at home and abroad.
