Early Morning Attack on Line 1
Three men have been placed in police custody following a violent assault on three women aboard a Paris Metro train on Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 7 a.m. on Line 1, according to police sources. The suspects are being investigated for aggravated violence, sexual assault, aggravated theft, and death threats.
Details of the Assault
The victims reported being attacked while traveling on the metro. One woman was allegedly threatened with a knife and forced to hand over a gold chain she was wearing. Another victim was physically assaulted, while a third was subjected to sexual assault. The women managed to escape the train at the Saint-Paul station after reportedly receiving death threats from the assailants.
Swift Police Response Leads to Arrests
After immediately alerting authorities, the victims provided descriptions that enabled police to identify three suspects at Châtelet station. The victims later formally identified the men in a police lineup. The knife used in the robbery has not been recovered.
Legal Proceedings Underway
The Paris prosecutor’s office announced that two of the suspects would be presented for immediate court appearance on Monday, December 8. The third suspect was released due to insufficient evidence. The investigation has been assigned to the Regional Transport Security division.

This incident occurs amid growing concerns about safety in public transportation. According to the National Observatory on Violence Against Women, reported sexual violence in public transport increased by 86% between 2016 and 2024, with 3,374 victims documented last year alone.
