RER B Closure Extends South from August 7 to 16, 2026

RER B Closure Extends South from August 7 to 16, 2026

Commuters on the RER B line face prolonged travel chaos this summer as a major engineering shutdown expands significantly. Already disrupted since July 25 between Gare du Nord and Bourg-la-Reine, the full closure will now stretch further south to La Croix de Berny and Robinson from Friday, August 7 through Sunday, August 16, 2026, inclusive.

The extensive works will completely cut off service at fifteen stations, severing a critical artery for thousands of daily passengers. In Paris, the impacted stops include Châtelet – Les Halles, Saint-Michel – Notre-Dame, Luxembourg, Port-Royal, Denfert-Rochereau, and Cité Universitaire. South of the capital, stations such as Gentilly, Arcueil – Cachan, Bagneux, and Parc de Sceaux will also see no trains.

Replacement Bus Shuttles and Reinforced Metro Line

To mitigate the disruption, the RATP has deployed a network of alternative transport solutions. The recently reopened Metro Line 4 will serve as a primary substitute, covering several of the closed RER B stations, including Châtelet – Les Halles, Saint-Michel, and Denfert-Rochereau. It also provides access to Porte d’Orléans, a key hub for replacement buses located near Cité Universitaire.

Several bus lines are recommended, including the 38, 128, 125, and 197. Most notably, two dedicated replacement shuttle bus services will operate from Porte d’Orléans. One shuttle will run to Bourg-la-Reine, and the other directly to La Croix de Berny. These shuttles promise a high frequency, with a passage every two to four minutes in both directions.

Connecting to Paris from the Southern Suburbs

>For passengers traveling from the far southern branches of the line, the RATP has outlined specific detours. Travelers starting between Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse and Massy – Palaiseau should take the RER B to Massy – Palaiseau and then choose from two options: board the RER C to Pont de Rungis and transfer to Metro Line 14 into Paris, or take the Line V tram to Versailles Chantiers for a connection to the Line N (towards Gare Montparnasse) or Line U (towards La Défense).

For those departing between Massy – Verrières and Antony, the recommended routes involve taking the RER B to Antony, then the Orlyval light rail to Orly Airport for a connection to Metro Line 14, or using the RER C to Pont de Rungis to access Metro Line 14. As a relief measure, the Orlyval is free with a Navigo pass for the entire duration of the summer works.

Further Evening and Weekend Disruptions Loom

A full return to normal service remains weeks away. Following the complete closure, a series of partial shutdowns will continue to plague the line. From Monday, August 17 to Thursday, August 27, no trains will run between Gare du Nord and Denfert-Rochereau every evening from 10:45 PM. This same central section will also be closed for entire weekends: from Friday, August 28 (starting at 10:45 PM) through Sunday, August 30, and again from Friday, September 11 (starting at 10:45 PM) through Sunday, September 13, 2026. The RATP has pledged to reinforce service on Bus Line 38 to compensate during these periods.
