ISLAMABAD — An Islamabad court has issued a show-cause notice to a man accused of defrauding national wrestler Athar Zahid of Rs5 million after he allegedly submitted a fabricated transaction receipt, underscoring growing judicial scrutiny over financial crimes involving prominent public figures.
Court Proceedings and Allegations
Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich presided over the hearing of a petition filed by Athar Zahid seeking the registration of a case at the Islamabad District and Sessions Court. The wrestler’s counsel, Sher Afzal Marwat, appeared before the court to present the petitioner’s case.
According to the petition, Athar Zahid had entrusted Rs5 million to Pir Asim Ali Shah for investment purposes. The accused allegedly paid profits for a period before the wrestler demanded the return of his principal amount. Instead of returning the funds, the accused reportedly orchestrated the wrestler’s arrest with the alleged connivance of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
Fake Receipt Raises Judicial Concerns
During the proceedings, Marwat informed the court that Athar Zahid, a national hero who has defeated India twice in the International Mega Wrestling Championship, had been subjected to a fraudulent scheme. The lawyer further alleged that the accused submitted a fake receipt showing a transaction of Rs100,000 before the court.
The court responded by issuing a show-cause notice to the accused over the alleged submission of the fabricated receipt. The development signals the court’s determination to address not only the original fraud allegations but also any attempts to mislead the judicial process.
Next Steps in the Case
The court has summoned the Station House Officer (SHO) of Shalimar Police Station for the next hearing and adjourned the case until October 28. The summoning of the SHO indicates the court’s intent to examine why a case was not registered despite the wrestler’s petition.
- The court issued a show-cause notice to the accused over the alleged fake transaction receipt
- Athar Zahid claims he gave Rs5 million to Pir Asim Ali Shah for investment
- The accused allegedly had the wrestler arrested through the NCCIA when asked to return the principal amount
- The SHO of Shalimar Police Station has been summoned for the next hearing on October 28
The case has drawn attention to the vulnerabilities faced by public figures in financial dealings and the importance of verifying transaction records submitted in legal proceedings. The court’s decision to issue a show-cause notice over the alleged fake receipt demonstrates a firm stance against attempts to manipulate judicial processes.
