LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif delivered a forceful message of solidarity with the Kashmiri people on Youm-e-Istehsal, categorically rejecting the events of August 5, 2019, and vowing Pakistan’s continued support for their right to self-determination.
In an official statement, Maryam Nawaz described the 2019 developments as an assault on the identity, rights, and future of the Kashmiri people, asserting that Pakistan would never accept those changes. She paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the freedom struggle and honored the resilience of their families.
Pledge of Diplomatic and Moral Support
The chief minister emphasized that the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Kashmiri brothers and sisters. She pledged that political, diplomatic, and moral support would continue unabated for what she termed their long struggle for fundamental rights.
Maryam Nawaz specifically called upon the United Nations, international human rights organizations, and the broader global community to take immediate notice of alleged serious human rights violations in the region. She urged them to play an effective role in ensuring that the people of the area are granted their basic rights.
PML-N’s Principled Stance
Referencing her party’s leadership, Maryam Nawaz stated that PML-N President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has always maintained a clear and principled stance on the Kashmir issue. She reiterated that Pakistan would continue to support the legitimate right to self-determination of the Kashmiri people in line with its national position.
She concluded by reaffirming that the Pakistani nation stands with its Kashmiri brothers and sisters and will continue to support their just struggle at every level.
